Sound pressure distributions and propagation paths in the vocal tract with the pyriform fossa and the larynx

چکیده
We have constructed models /i/ and /u/ of the vocal tract from the glottis to the velum with the pyriform fossa and the larynx, and have analyzed by finite element method. Sound pressure distributions in XY cross-sections at 500Hz, the first resonant frequencies, and 2500Hz are shown. The barycentric coordinates of real part of the sound intensity and of sound particle velocity in each XY cross-section are shown. It is found that sound in the vocal tract is not always propagated as a plane wave even when its frequency is low such as 500Hz. Paths of sound propagation are shown. We show the reason why the first resonant frequencies are different in the vocal tract with and without the pyriform fossa.

Avicenna's Anatomical Legacy as Seen Through the Relevant Topics in Modern Anat-omy
Background: Makhaarej Al-Horouf, the study of speech sounds by Avicenna is a valuable piece of work in the study of speech sounds, which was written about ten centuries ago. It contains six chapters on sound, anatomy of vocal tract, and phonetics. It is amazing to find that Avicenna’s explanations are congruent with the findings of modern scholarship in relevant topics. The study was intended t...
متن کاملAcoustic propagation analysis in the front of saline water mass in the Gulf of Aden
Background and Objectives: Influence of water mass on sound propagation in the Gulf of Aden underwater acoustics used for communication, navigation and identification of objects by both humans and marine mammals and for investigating the detrimental effects of anthropogenic activities (e.g. pile driving, seismic survey and ships) on marine animals. The Gulf of Aden presents a unique ecosystem t...
متن کاملTumours of the hypopharynx
The definition of these sites is shown in Table 13.1. The larynx projects into the hypopharynx from the front so that grooves, known as the pyriform fossae, are formed on either side. These are shallow above and are separated from the valleculae by the pharyngoepiglottic folds. Lower down, the pyriform fossae become deeper. The upper shallow part of the pyriform fossa is bounded laterally by th...
متن کاملSound Wave Propagation in Viscous Liquid-Filled Non-Rigid Carbon Nanotube with Finite Length
In this paper, numerical results obtained and explained from an exact formula in relation to sound pressure load due to the presence of liquid inside the finite-length non-rigid carbon nanotubes (CNTs), which is coupled with the dynamic equations of motion for the CNT. To demonstrate the accuracy of this work, the obtained formula has been compared to what has been used by other research...
متن کاملDetermination of Laryngeal Dimensions in 50 Cadaver in Kerman
Larynx is part of the upper respiratory tract composed of cartilaginous skeleton, muscles and mucus lining inside. This structure keeps larynx open for air passage and is one of the important factors in producing voice. A good knowledge of larynx dimensions is neccessary to obtain better results in the treatment of laryngeal disorders. The size of larynx and its dimensions are subject to sex, r...
